In an effort to combat global warming, The Fintura Corporation along with MetaBank has developed the GreenPay MasterCard credit card program for environmentally concerned individuals and corporations.
The GreenPay credit card's objective is to reduce carbon dioxide's impact on the environment by neutralizing the "carbon footprint" produced by daily activities (such as greenhouse gases created by burning fossil fuels or from the decomposition of everyday household products.)
It is estimated that average American family of four creates over 35,000 lbs of carbon dioxide each year. So to calculate what one individual might produce, you could estimate that at about 8500 lbs.
Using GreenPay's rewards program, for every dollar you spend, the program will donate to sanctioned initiatives that effectively offset your "carbon footprint" by 5 to 10 pounds.
What's ironic is the program will contribute more when you buy gasoline than for other purchases. Although it makes sense that for something that creates more C02 that more will be donated.
