I live on a mountain top in the Santa Cruz mountains with 2 amazing women, Michele and Debrae, and their beautiful and talented daughter, Athena. The women own a green construction business that specializes in strawbale. (http://www.buildingnaturally.com) They live in an amazing 2 story strawbale home that they designed and built. I live in a smaller home that was on the property when they purchased it, but has been completely green remodeled. This is a beautiful place to live, and I feel extremely fortunate to be here. We love and support each other as best we can. And, we're surrounded by nature - Pines, Oaks, Redwoods, deer, quail, rabbits, rattlesnakes, a mountain lion, the clear sky, and a view of the bay and ocean.
I am also blessed to be part of a huge extended family of what I would call modern tribal people. This family is mostly concentrated on the West Coast in the US and Canada, but extends around the world. We are an extremely eclectic group of individuals, each working to live in as conscious a manner as possible, and promote positive change in the world, while being as true to our selves as we can. Our love for each other. The incredible amount of talent that each individual carries and expresses. The music and the dancing. We see things pretty clearly, and communicate our experiences just as clearly. We love and create beautiful music. We care for each other. We have room for a few more people here on the mountain. We could use some more male energy. Our homes are built to take advantage of the sun for natural heating, and the wind from the ocean for cooling. The main house has a solar water heating system. My house is plumbed for greywater, and we're laying a system to water the fruit orchard. Our water comes for a well. We use only organic products, eat only organic food, and limit what we purchase. We prefer to re-use and recycle than purchase new. Craigslist (http://www.craigslist.org) is a blessing! We have an extensive vegetable and herb garden that will provide much of our food needs this Summer and Fall. We've begun keeping our own bees, and will use the gifts of honey in our food, and the gifts of wax to make candles. We're working toward installing solar and wind power systems to get completely off the grid. |
